Through our Michael L. Mezey Faculty & Community Research Center Lab, the Egan Center is helping Sociology Professor Richard Schaefer with data analysis and maps for his book project on racial concentrations in the U.S.
The Lab, located on the third floor of the 990 Fullerton building, offers the DPU community training, technical and research assistance and access to census, crime, housing, education, environmental, transportation and demographic data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the City of Chicago, the Chicago Public Schools, the Chicago Housing Authority, Metro Chicago Information Center, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Homeland Security and ESRI. It has 16 Dell workstations, a server with capacity to host our own and community Web sites, and is equipped with digital camera, portable projection, scanning and printing equipment. It includes mapping (Geographic Information System/GIS), statistical and graphic design software.
