John Bergholz
Vice President for Development
As vice president for Development, John Bergholz manages all fund-raising initiatives for DePaul. Bergholz, who joined DePaul in 1995 as director of development for the College of Commerce, was promoted several times and most recently served as associate vice president for Development.
During his time with Commerce, the college raised 46 percent of all university funds in fiscal year 2002 and 42 percent of all university funds in fiscal year 2003. Bergholz has helped raise more than $68 million while at DePaul. He was instrumental in the gift that launched the School for New Learning program in Tangaza, Kenya. In addition to his fund-raising responsibilities, Bergholz also established DePaul's first international alumni chapters in Hong Kong, Bangkok, Prague and Athens.
Bergholz became involved in the DePaul community by participating in three faculty/staff development tours, serving as a member of the DePaulia Advisory Board and helping to establish the School of Education Advisory Board and the Arizona Alumni Chapter. Bergholz has been a volunteer member of Grace Lutheran Church and School's Alumni Board and is a former member of Reed College's Alumni Board, where he helped to establish an endowed class scholarship — the first of its kind for Reed.
He is an accomplished runner, having completed 15 marathons: six Chicago Marathons, four Boston Marathons, one New York Marathon and four others in Europe.
Before joining DePaul, Bergholz was director of annual giving and associate director of development for the Northwestern University School of Law. Prior to his career in higher education fund raising, he raised money for Remains Theatre and the Lyric Opera of Chicago. He earned a bachelor's degree in international studies from Reed College.
