A recognized expert on courtroom evidence and a scholarly entrepreneur, Glen Weissenberger was named dean of the College of Law in July 2002. The college, noted for innovation and outstanding legal education, offers emphases in intellectual property, public interest law, lawyering skills, international human rights, tax and family law. The college recently added study-abroad programs in Beijing and Costa Rica. Fund-raising reflects the law school achievements, with the college raising more money through individual giving than any other academic unit in the past two years.
During Dean Weissenberger's tenure, the quality of entering students has substantially improved; the median LSAT for the entering class of 2005 was a record 160, a six-point jump over three years. The college's centers and institutes have thrived, with U.S.News & World Report ranking the health law and intellectual property programs among the top in the nation in April 2005. In 2006 the College of Law's overall ranking in The U.S.News & World Report survey of graduate programs placed the law school in the "Top 100" tier. This improvement in the law school's ranking from its previous position in the "Third Tier" was an unprecedented jump of over 20 positions in the survey. It also realizes the law school's long -term goal of being ranked in the top tier of the survey.
Weissenberger served on DePaul's presidential search committee, helping select the university's current president. In 2005, he was appointed chair of the Editorial Advisory Board of LexisNexis Legal Publishing, one of the largest legal publishers in the United States.
Weissenberger brings a mix of legal expertise, business savvy and entrepreneurship to the college. He joined DePaul from the University of Cincinnati law school, where he taught for 27 years, rising to become the Judge Joseph P. Kinneary Professor of Law. During his tenure, he served as special counsel to the university president and as director of the university's Center for Studies in Professional Skills. He received many teaching and scholarship awards, including the Ohio State Bar Foundation Outstanding Research Award in 2001, the University of Cincinnati Faculty Achievement Award in 1995, and the Jerome P. Goldman Prize for Teaching Excellence, University of Cincinnati in 1977 and 1980.
A prolific author, Weissenberger has penned many works found in libraries and classrooms across the nation. "Weissenberger's Federal Evidence, Fourth Edition" is commonly cited in law review articles and texts on evidence law, while its companion work, "Weissenberger's Federal Evidence Courtroom Manual," has been published annually since 1992. His early law review articles on landlord and tenant law are currently excerpted in nearly every property law casebook.
Weissenberger was the driving force behind the development of more than 150 titles for the law school division of Anderson Publishing Co., a Cincinnati-based legal publisher, where he worked as an editorial consultant since 1987.
A trustee for the Glenn M. Weaver Foundation and Glenn M. Weaver Institute of Law and Psychiatry since 1977, he was of counsel to the Cincinnati law firm of Lloyd & Weissenberger from 1981 to 1997. He also has served as legal counsel to the International Brotherhood of Magicians, a hobby he pursues.
Weissenberger earned a law degree from Harvard University in 1972 and a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1969.
