This interdisciplinary program provides its students with a systematic, integrated course of study of Africa and the Black Diaspora. Students will have an opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in African and Black Diaspora Studies with a concentration in Africa, Black America, or Afro-Caribbean and Latin America. African and Black Diaspora.
Studies will also train students in comparative analysis of regions (e.g., peoples, religions, philosophies). This program pays specific attention to the ways in which concepts of history, power, identity, gender, and race shape contemporary understandings of Africa and its diaspora.
The more than a dozen faculty members are draw from a number of DePaul academic departments, including highly regarded and nationally recognized scholars.
Chicago's large African-American population and ethnic communities provide a laboratory for extensive research and observation.
