The School of Accountancy and Management Information Systems, a division of the College of Commerce, offers a four-year program leading to a Bachelor of Science in Commerce with an accounting major. Accounting students gain excellent CPA exam preparation and receive a state-of-the-art education in contemporary business skills.
More Than a Degree In Business
The Undergraduate Accountancy Program
Accountants analyze, interpret and communicate modern business, and are central to the decision-making process. Increasingly, they are being asked to bring their analytical and technological skills to develop business solutions to problems in all areas of organizations.
Upon conclusion of the accounting program, students will be well-prepared and well-positioned to complete the Illinois requirements to sit for the CPA exam through supplemental undergraduate study or through advanced coursework leading to a graduate degree.
A Commitment to Excellence
The Undergraduate programs of the School of Accountancy lead to the Bachelor of Science in Commerce. Based on a liberal arts foundation which develops skills in communication, critical thinking, analysis and problem solving, as well as an understanding of social, economic and political issues, it also comprises a broad-based business core with courses in finance, marketing, management, business law and technology.
Strobel Honors Program
The Strobel Honors Program represents an outstanding opportunity for accounting majors targeted for a leadership role in business. Open by invitation to entering freshmen with records of superior academic and extracurricular achievement in high school, it is a four-year program with a liberal arts foundation, a quality business education and specialized study in accounting. Expectations are high and the challenges are demanding, but "Strobel Scholar" is a brand name in the Chicago accounting community.
An Excellent Faculty, An Extraordinary Location
Our Professors
Your DePaul professors, through an unmatched commitment to teaching excellence and innovation, prepare you with the skills to apply your knowledge creatively and immediately.
Here, professors -- not graduate assistants -- teach accountancy courses. They are active researchers who regularly write and contribute to widely used textbooks and professional journals. Most have direct experience in business. They have served as chief financial officers, controllers, and internal auditors for major corporations. A number of professors work with accounting and business firms or major professional organizations as consultants, faculty residents or participants on special projects.
Our Location
In the heart of Chicago's financial and business community, DePaul's location is a key factor in attracting a faculty with impressive talent, credentials, experience and a strong desire to teach.
Chicago is the center for commerce, technology, and accounting employment in the Midwest. The leading international accounting and consulting firms are either based in Chicago, or have major offices here and most recent regional accounting firms are based in the Chicago area.
Unique Opportunities
Internships
Leveraging location, reputation and extensive contacts with the business community, the School of Accountancy's internship activities provide a world of choices and opportunities: selection for one of the School's formal internship/scholarship programs sponsored by such firms as Abbott Laboratories, Deloitte & Touche, Ernst & Young, KPMG, and PricewaterhouseCoopers; participation in an arranged, faculty-monitored internship program which provides academic credit toward your degree; and applying for any of the dozens of internship and part-time job opportunities that are offered to School students throughout the year.
Scholarships
School scholarships supplement other awards provided by the university or the College of Commerce. The School's many scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, high school record, ACT/SAT scores and extracurricular activities. A personal interview is part of the scholarship selection process. All students intending to study accounting at DePaul are automatically considered for School scholarships.
