Economics studies the allocation of scarce resources among the competing needs and desires of individuals and society. Both a social science discipline and a way of thinking about questions of production, consumption, distribution, and efficiency, graduates with a background in economics are solidly prepared for employment in a variety of jobs, or advanced studies in law, business, or economics. The economics major in the College of Commerce combines the theories, models and empirical analysis of economics with the related business fields of accountancy, finance, marketing and management. This degree provides a solid foundation for employment in the corporate sector or advanced business studies leading to an MBA. The economics major in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is combined with allied course work in the social and behavioral sciences, making for an excellent preparation for employment, law school and advanced degrees in economics.
