The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers programs of study that cater to a broad range of mathematical interests and areas of application. Undergraduate mathematics majors can choose to concentrate in pure mathematics, actuarial science, statistics, secondary education, mathematical computer studies, or quantitative analysis/operations research. These options provide preparation for graduate study and a wide variety of careers.
There has never been a better time to have mathematical training. The need for good elementary, junior high school and high school mathematics teachers is acute in many communities, and companies increasingly rely on complex data driven analytics. The demand for people who can solve quantitative problems is expected to grow for the foreseeable future, and mathematics graduates will have a competitive advantage.
