As parents and family members, you have an important role in supporting your student throughout the college experience, academically, socially and financially. The staff of DePaul’s Office of Financial Aid is here to help you with the finances. We’ll guide you and your student through the process, help you find funding sources, and strategize the best plan for your family.

You’ll find most of the information you need in this web site. Begin with the “For Parents” section and the links to your right.  You’ll want to pay particular attention to "Your Student’s Aid Application” and “Completing the Award Process”. You also may be interested in DePaul’s payment plans. Finally, you may want to encourage your student to participate in the free Financial Fitness Program, which teaches important concepts like budgeting, expense management and financial planning.

We expect you to have questions. We’re here to answer them. You may contact us in many ways, from telephone and e-mail to in-person visits at one of our offices.

Your Responsibilities

You have several key responsibilities in helping your student apply for and receive financial aid. They fall in three areas: the aid application, completing the award process, and receiving funds.

Enrollment Requirements

Many types of financial aid, from grants and scholarships to federal and alternative loans, require students to be enrolled full time to receive the full award. In many cases students must be enrolled for 12 credit hours per quarter, but for some programs, particularly the Illinois Monetary Grant Program, students must be enrolled for 15 credit hours.

If your student drops a class and falls below the required level, his or her financial aid for that quarter will be reduced.

If your student is considering dropping a class, please encourage him or her to contact our office first so that we can determine the impact on your student’s award package.
