When does the contest start? Finish?
We begin taking video submissions on April 13. All submissions must be in by May 15. We will announce the winners in early June.
What type of video/film are you looking for?
It's entirely up to you. While you do need to follow these guidelines, we are looking for your creative interpretation of life at DePaul.
How will the winners be selected?
To be eligible to win, your film must meet our requirements. If your film is accepted, it will be judged on creativity, originality, depiction of DePaul, overall impression and technical execution.
Are there specific video requirements/formats/restrictions?
As long as your video can be uploaded and viewed on YouTube, we will accept it. Finalists will be asked to submit a hard media copy of their videos, for those, we would appreciate full resolution files in one of the following formats: .MOV, .MP4, .MPG, or QuickTime.
Do I need to obtain permission to use clips of other films or music in my video?
Yes, unless the amount you are using and the way you are using it constitutes "fair use" under the applicable U.S. copyright laws. Any video that does not comply with U.S. copyright law will be disqualified from the contest. So, if there is any doubt as to whether your use of somebody else's work would be considered "fair use," we suggest you obtain their consent. For more information about "fair use" feel free to visit the U.S. Copyright Office website (http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl102.html).
May I enter more than one video?
No.
How do you get a YouTube account?
To set up a YouTube account, click here.
How do I vote?
All voting is done via YouTube. Once videos are uploaded to our gallery, you may vote on videos using YouTube's star rating system. You must sign into YouTube to vote.
Who is eligible to participate?
Only current DePaul students may enter the contest. However, anyone is welcome to view and vote on submissions.
Is this contest the same as the Campus MovieFest?
No, they are separate events. Both are approved by DePaul.
Can I submit a film that was created during Campus MovieFest?
Yes, we would love to include your video, as long as it meets our requirements.
What happens if I am selected as a finalist?
Finalists will be asked to submit a full resolution version of their entry on a hard media (CD, DVD, jump drive, etc.) in one of the following formats: .MOV, .MP4, .MPG or QuickTime. Our judges will then select the winners. You will be notified via e-mail if you are selected.
How will my video be used?
We plan to feature the winning videos on DePaul.edu. We may use them on the Web in other creative ways in the future as well.
Does everyone who works on the film need to be a DePaul student?
Yes.
What about actors?
Yes, mostly. In order to maintain the highest level of authenticity, we ask that anyone appearing in a film as a DePaul student be an actual DePaul student. Similarly, anyone with a significant role should be a DePaul student or associated with DePaul in some way (faculty, staff, etc). We are flexible with background and non-critical roles. Just remember, only DePaul students are eligible to win the prize money. If you have any more questions about this, please e-mail us at contestinfo@depaul.edu.
Do you have a Facebook page?
Of course we have a Facebook page.
If I win, when do I get my money?
Within a couple weeks of the announcement of the contest winners.
Can we enter a video as a team?
Absolutely. We encourage it and expect that many students will work in small teams to produce their videos. Just remember, you may only work on one entry and the prize money will be divided up among your team.
If we enter as a team, how do we submit as a group?
You must select one person to submit your video to YouTube and fill out your entry form. List your team member in the Team Member field on the entry form.
Who do I contact if I have more questions?
Send an e-mail to contestinfo@depaul.edu. We will get back to you as soon as we can.
