Hosted by Tsinghua University, this two-quarter program allows students to study the complexities of contemporary China across disciplines, including history, geography, international studies, political science, anthropology, and communications, as well as the Chinese language. The campus of this prestigious university is situated on several former royal Qing dynasty gardens in the northwest sector of Beijing.

During this December program, graduate students in Public Service explore one of the largest and fastest developing countries in the world. Students focus on how external relations affect both rural and urban development in China, enhancing their ability to analyze issues from governmental and non-governmental perspectives. Hosted by the City University of Hong Kong, this five-month program enables students to explore this vibrant city while studying its history, political science, economics and the Chinese language. Students will complete an intensive four-week internship or independent research project based on their academic interests. They also will be able to explore the city’s museums, theatres, art galleries, restaurants, woodlands, beaches and nearby rural communities. Hong Kong, which returned to China in 1997 after 150 years of British colonial rule, has served as the trading center for Asia for more than 100 years.


Kyoto, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan

This short-term program examines religious, ethical and spiritual responses to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki from 1945 to present. The program investigates the actual historical events, providing a basis for further discussion of present-day issues surrounding nuclear weaponry. Students explore the effects of nuclear warfare and learn how individuals are working today to learn from that history.

Hosted by the Institute for the International Education of Students at Nanzan University, this two-quarter program allows students to intensively study the Japanese language as well as business, communications, history, religion, sociology, art, literature and more. One of Japan’s major cities, Nagoya is an important industrial and cultural center. Nagoya Castle, originally built in 1612, Atsuta Shrine, and the Tokugawa Art Museum are among the city’s many famous attractions that draw visitors from around the world.

Hosted by Kansai Gaidai University, this year-long program allows students to intensively study the Japanese language as well as Japanese business, history, religion, sociology, art and more. The university is located in Hirakata City, which is midway between Osaka, Japan’s second largest industrial metropolis, and Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan.

This one-week College of Commerce seminar explores how technology can be leveraged to achieve marketing objectives quickly and cost effectively. Organizations in Japan are very progressive in creating new technology and these advances have been quickly adopted by both consumers and businesses. Topics include Web and wireless applications, robotics, customer relationship management, and privacy and social implications. Students visit organizations such as Vstone Robotics, Takeda Pharmaceutical, Fujitsu, Toyota Motomachi Plant Tour, Oakllawn Marketing, Hitachi, and the Ministry of Economy Trade & Industry.

Hosted by the DePaul Institute of Science & Technology in Kerala, this two-week December program gives graduate students in Public Service the opportunity to examine the management of development in the non-profit, governmental and proprietary sectors. Students explore the characteristics of effective leadership and management within the context of Indian society while interacting with students and governmental and non-governmental leaders.

Through this short-term program, graduate students in the School of Public Service will study the practical application of qualitative, qualitative and other research methods applied to the organizational needs of non-profit and community-based organizations engaged in urban poverty reduction. Conducted in conjunction with Adamson University and Slums Dwellers International / Homeless International, it enables students to learn about recent initiatives in poverty reduction, urban poverty, slums dwellers and participatory action research. Through case studies and design of participatory action research projects in collaboration with organizations in the Metro Manila-Philippines area, students learn how to use a range of research methods applied to the field of international public services.

DePaul’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Management partners with the Pan Asia Human Resources and Consulting Corp. to offer the MBA degree to part-time students. The first cohort has about 25 students, lasts 18 months, and is taught by DePaul professors on site.


Bangkok, Thailand

DePaul’s School for New Learning partners with Assumption University to offer a Master of Arts in Applied Professional Studies with an emphasis on bilingual education to teachers, particularly those at St. Gabriel’s College. Cohorts of 25 to 30 students take two years to complete the program.

This two-week College of Commerce seminar introduces students to the history, geography, current political and economic situation, issues, and Western exploration of Southeast Asia. Students visit several corporations based in Bangkok, such as the International Bank of Asia, Stock Exchange of Thailand, Thai Airways, Coca-Cola/Thai Pure Drink, and Dusit Thani-Kempenski Hotels, to study marketing and financial strategies and growth prospects.
